Megawatts

1999 former President Olusegun Obasanjo promised to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity by 2007. Earlier in the year, President Musa Yar'dua made another promise that the power sector will generate 10,000 megawatts by January 2010. I believed him, abi, he's still the President of Nigeria. But just yesterday, the Minister of power, Dr Remi Babalola said that it is no longer possible for the Federal Government to fulfill its promise of delivering a minimum of 6,000 megawatts of electricity by December this year. Okay Minister Babalola what is the excuse this time? We have been told again and again the the problem with the power supply is to be traced to the saboteurs in the power sector. Omo, saboteurs no get name, at least you know where dem dey "in the power sector" whats the job of the Criminal Investigation Department CID? Do we need another commission like the EFCC? maybe we can call it EPCC(Economic and Power Crimes Commission) Why is it so hard for the leaders of Nigeria to understand that people are dying from the generator fumes all across the country. According to the reports published just this year by the Better Citizens of Nigeria" over 3000 people died in the past year as a direct effect of generator fumes. You just go to Bing or Google and type in "Generator Fumes in Nigeria" and see what comes up. A little over 4,000 US soldiers have died since the beginning of the Iraq war. So would it be a fair statement to say that the Nigerian Government is at war with its own people. How difficult is it to provide the most basic necessity that a nation citizen can enjoy. we are not asking for a handout or food stamps, all we are asking for is a stable power supplies and we are willing to pay for it.
Foreign Minister, Ojo Maduekwe(Great Comedian) asked Nigerians abroad to come home and serve their country. You see why I called him a great comedian. Even Nigerian Prisoner abroad reject serving jail term at home. Tell me something I know know. That's a topic for another time.
